MINDFULNESS is another word for awareness.
It may be called "bare attention" or "wise attention".
Ellen Langer
Mindfulness is concentrated awareness of one's thoughts, actions or motivations. After my training with Lindsey this morning, I realize how much I need to be focused only on myself and every movement while I train.
It's easy to just go through the motions, shadow boxing or on the bags. Even during pad work, you aren't stopped about every last detail of your workout and can escape weeks of training, even months, without being corrected on some seriously bad habits.
I was sweating so much more when I was fully focusing on my hips, my footwork, making the correct motion, etc. with Lindsey today. I felt it more in my abs, my arms, you name it and I felt it more there.
I see how much work I have to do, and - more importantly - how to do it. When doing shadow boxing or working on the bags, it's easy just to kind of "hit away" (or, in the case of shadow, "pretend-hit away") while thinking of something entirely different or just passing time until you get in the ring. NOW I know that I should be focusing on every aspect of every punch, jab, uppercut, hook, kick, knee, and elbow (although even Lindsey admitted that my elbows were really good.....they are my favorite, after all, LOL!) ESPECIALLY MY FOOTWORK, which seems to be my biggest obstacle right now.
I've got my work cut out for me. I paid for a VIP with Lindsey on Monday to go over it all again, so I can continue practicing my good habits while she's gone (note: she leaves for Australia for 10 days soon).

Hi Mary,
how was your weekend in Phuket?
I was meant to do green smoothie fasting, I did it half way; I fasted on those green bad boys until evening, then I had some 'real' food. I decided it was better that way; the main point was to get those nutrients in me and I think I did; I consumed 700 g of spinach, pot of parsley, big bunch of mint, lots of fruit; kiwis, bananas, mango, berries, satsumas.. mmm.. and I trained quite a bit; Sat am in the gym, Sat afternoon boxing, Sun am in the gym, Sun pm running.. now 'm going to finish off by stretching and meditating - I feel like a champ!
It would be really nice to hear about your typical day there; how do you spend your days, what about weekends? I mean, I just can't wait to get there and would love to imagine what life there is like..
Good luck for The Biggest Loser, I'm sure you can do it!
Love,
Laura
Hey There...
GOOD FOR YOU! And good for you for listening to your body...
I had a great weekend, I went out Friday and Saturday because I haven't been and the contest was coming up. Out dancing, etc. Fun! My days here are pretty relaxed. Training in the afternoon, a walk or training in the morning (sleep issue due to weather change; only getting like five hours at a time) and a lot of rest. I don't have a scooter and so I am working on a project online, etc. And I don't eat out much right now trying to save money. Most just go out to eat. The beach is tiring in the day, totally, and it's still the end of rainy season, so we have showers here and there. Like downpours! I'm about to walk to the grocery store, something people think I'm crazy for doing, and something I don't want to do, but my friend who said he'd give me a ride is nowhere to be found and I'm pretty independent and against mooching, so... looks like I'm walking. Most Thais hate to see you walking and will offer you rides, LOL! Like you are being tortured. At this time of day, I'll accept. ;)
I have some kind of eye allergy that feels like pink eye coming on (but not escalating) and I hate it. Started yesterday, kind of stinks. May go to pharmacy, which is the opposite direction of the store. Doh! So I might go to the pharmacy TONIGHT and the store now. Because I'll train at 4 and every day training is just sweatier and sweatier, hotter and hotter. Fin, my trainer, literally dumps water on himself all day. Every time you punch a pad, sweat sprays everywhere... lol! Soon, I aim to be running in the mornings and doing both trainings in full, but I'm being respectful of my body patterns, too. Just yesterday like one or two more people injured themselves. Most of us don't, but one wrong move and you can...and that happens when I'm TIRED.
